Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of the Republic of Azerbaijan hosted a presentation for the international donor community for the ICT project accomplished at MFA with the financial support from UN Development Program. Strengthening MFA was high priority for Azerbaijan since the country gained its independence in 1991. The US$400,000 UNDP project has helped to build capacity in the Ministry through staff training, the introduction of information and communication technology (ICT) and advice on structural reforms. R.I.S.K.’s solution proposed to MFA through the competitive selection process for locating the professional supplier for the ICT part of the technical support program was selected as the most productive and cost-effective to MFA’s needs and it has been successfully implemented. Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr.Vilayet Guliyev opened the meeting by greeting the representatives of the diplomatic corps and international donor organizations participating in the event and thanked UNDP for its valuable assistance to strengthening the Ministry. UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Representative Marco Borsotti stated in his address that the project has pioneered the introduction of ICT into the Ministry and that ICT for development was one of UNDP's main areas of involvement worldwide. He had mentioned that the project was not simply about hardware but was about a new approach to business, which could help enhance productivity. Establishment of the electronic local area network within the Ministry system, Internet access provision and development of the internal document storage system have been indicated as important achievements of the project handled by R.I.S.K. Company.
